Lakeland Bank Employees Support Meals On Wheels
More than $2,700 donated to help senior citizens
OAK RIDGE, N.J., JUNE 7, 2012 — Lakeland Bank employees donated a total of $2758 to the Meals On Wheels Program through the company’s monthly “Jeans Day” fundraiser, where employees are permitted to wear jeans on Fridays in exchange for a charitable donation of $10 or more per week.
“The Bank works hard to make a difference in the communities that we serve, and our employees’ donation to Meals On Wheels is a good example of how together we support our neighbors in need,” said Thomas J. Shara, president and chief executive officer of Lakeland Bank.
The donation will be split among Meals on Wheels programs in Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and Warren Counties and used to further their mission to provide nutritious meals and other supportive services to both the homebound and senior nutrition center participants.
“Donations, such as the one from Lakeland Bank, are needed and greatly appreciated,” said James G. Osgood, nutrition services director of Passaic County Division of Nutrition Services, “because although we are funded through the Federal Government: Title III Older Americans Act; the State Department of Health & Senior Services; and the County of Passaic, our funding levels have remained constant while costs associated with the daily operation of our program continue to escalate.”
The Passaic County Division of Nutrition Services is responsible for providing quality nutrition services to both home delivered clients and senior center participants. They are committed to nourishing the physical being as well as the mind and spirit. Specifically, the agency is committed to lessening isolation and providing a system that supports older adult independence in the community in order to enhance their quality of life.
About Meals On Wheels (Passaic County)
The Passaic County Division of Nutrition Services operates under the auspices of the Department of Senior Services, Disability and Veteran's Affairs and the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders. They serve all 16 municipalities of Passaic County. The agency provides home delivered meals (Meals on Wheels) to homebound older adults of Passaic County who are unable to provide for their own nutritional needs due to acute/chronic illness or handicap. Home delivered meal service is provided Monday through Friday. In addition, the agency provides congregate meals at eight senior centers, where older adults (60+) can engage in a variety of social and educational activities with their contemporaries, and receive a nutritious meal during the week.
