Lakeland Bank is proud to offer the highest level of security to our Online Banking customers. Multifactor Authentication adds an extra layer of security by allowing us to identify you and allowing you to identify us before permitting access to your accounts.
What is it? Multifactor Authentication is a procedural safeguard that creates an online identity for you through a series of questions, display images and pass phrases, and computer “fingerprints”.
How does it work? Upon initial set-up, you will be assigned a random image, asked to choose a unique pass phrase, and select and answer three challenge questions (for example, “What was your high school mascot?”). In addition, you can “register” your computer as an authorized access point for future online banking logins.
If the bank does not recognize your computer the next time you log in, you will be prompted to answer one of your security challenge questions. If the image and pass phrase displayed does not match your image and pass phrase, then do not continue – you may not be at the bank’s authentic website.
If the bank has successfully identified you (by recognizing your computer or by answering a challenge question), and you have successfully identified us (by verifying the correct image and pass phrase), then simply enter your password to access your accounts.
When will I have to set-up my Multifactor Authentication Identity? Consumer online banking customers will have to set-up their MFA identify beginning on May 2, 2007. MFA set-up for business online banking customers is required beginning May 16, 2007. You will be prompted to complete your MFA set-up upon logging in.
What about businesses? Business online banking customers who initiate wire transfers, tax payments and ACH entries online will also be required to use a higher level different Multifactor Authentication. These customers will be provided a Token, a small electronic device (about the size of a keychain) that generates a one-time password which must be entered whenever initiating these types of transfers. If you currently process fund transfers using these methods, you will be notified by the bank.
