Thomas J. Shara

Chief Executive Officer, Lakeland Bank

Tom Shara was appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of Lakeland Bancorp, Inc. and Lakeland Bank effective on April 02, 2008. Prior to joining Lakeland Bancorp, Mr. Shara served as President and Chief Lending Officer, of TD Banknorth's Mid-Atlantic Division, which includes New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Prior to TD Banknorth acquiring Hudson United Bank, Mr. Shara was Executive Vice President and Senior Loan Officer of HUBCO; a $9 Billion commercial Bank, where he oversaw organic growth and was responsible for integrating over 30 acquisitions.
  

Mr. Shara currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Boys and Girls Club of Paterson, New Jersey and on the Board of Directors of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey. He also serves on the Board of Governors of the Ramapo College Foundation and the Chilton Hospital Foundation. Mr. Shara is also a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Community Depository Institution’s Advisory Council. He earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. 

 

 

 

Robert A. Vandenbergh

Regional President and Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Vandenbergh is responsible for Commercial Lending, Retail Banking, Operations, Project Management, Marketing and Human Resources for Lakeland Bancorp. He began his career at Midlantic Bank/North in 1980. At Midlantic he held various positions over the years including Manager of Commercial Credit, and Vice President and Manager of the International Department, where he was responsible for administration, credit quality and portfolio development. In 1990, Mr. Vandenbergh became Senior Vice President and Senior Loan Administrator of the Bank.
 

He joined The National Bank of Sussex County (NBSC) in 1991, assuming responsibility for the overall administration of the Bank's loan portfolio. He became a Director of NBSC in 1995, Executive Vice President in 1997, and President of the Bank in November 1998.
A graduate of Ramapo College with a B.S. in Business Administration, Mr. Vandenbergh has been active in the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce. He is a former Chairman of the Sussex County Community College and is currently a Karen Ann Quinlan Foundation Trustee.

 

 

 




 
 

Stewart E. McClure
Regional President 

Mr. McClure joined Lakeland Bank in 2013 as Regional President and his responsibilities include Mortgage and Consumer Lending, Government Banking, Investment Services, Cash Management, Lakeland Title Group, LLC and Business Development. Prior to Lakeland Bank, he served as President and CEO of Somerset Hills Bank and Somerset Hills Bancorp and has spent his entire forty-one year banking career in the New Jersey marketplace.

Currently the Chairman of the New Jersey Bankers Association, Mr. McClure is a member and Past President of the Community Bankers Association of New Jersey.

Mr. McClure is the past Chairman of Special Olympics New Jersey and continues to serve as Chairman of their Finance Committee. He also serves on the Boards of the Mendham Townhouse Association, the Abenakee Golf Club, and the Biddeford Pool Beach Association Trust. He has previously served on the boards of the New Jersey Independent College Fund, Morris Museum, Summit Speech School, Opera at Florham, and the Park Avenue Club. He also served on the Board and as President of the Mendham Boro School Board, the Plaid House group home for girls and the Morris County Golf Club.

Mr. McClure graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a B.S. in Business and Economics and from Fairleigh Dickenson University with an MBA in Management.
     

Jeffrey J. Buonforte

Senior Government/Business Services Officer

Mr. Buonforte's responsibilities include the oversight of Municipal Banking, Wealth Management, including building and developing our Sales Reps, Cash Management and Business Development. Mr. Buonforte has over 35 years of sales and retail banking experience, with most of his knowledge of branch sales, marketing, nontraditional banking products, and new business development attained at National Community Bank and its successor, Bank of New York.

As Senior Vice President and Regional Manager, he was responsible for marketing retail banking products and services to consumer and small business markets for the Bank. Mr. Buonforte was Director of Sales and Marketing for Computerland, Secaucus NJ and was an Account Executive for Merrill Lynch, Paramus, NJ. He holds a B.S. degree, Magna Cum Laude, in Economics and Accounting from Nichols College, Dudley, Massachusetts. Mr. Buonforte is also a graduate, with honors, of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, University of Delaware. He is a Certified Financial Planner and holds a Series 7 and 63 FINRA license. Mr. Buonforte is currently the Finance Chair of the Passaic County 200 Club, a William Paterson University Business College advisory board member, an advisory board member of Montclair State University's Music College and formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce and also on the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce.

 

 

 

Joseph F. Hurley

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Hurley joined Lakeland Bancorp in 1999 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for the Controller, Investment and Treasury functions. He previously served as Deputy Controller of Bankers Trust and Corporate Controller at Westpac Banking Corporation and HSBC Securities.

Mr. Hurley began his career with Price Waterhouse and, most recently, Mr. Hurley was the Chief Financial Officer of Hudson United Bancorp, a $9 billion New Jersey based community bank. Mr. Hurley holds an undergraduate and MBA degree from Rutgers University. He is also a graduate of the College for Financial Planners. A Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Hurley is a member of the American Institute of CPA's and serves on the Finance Committee of various community organizations.

 

 

 

 

Timothy J. Matteson, Esq.
Executive Vice President,
General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Mr. Matteson joined the Company in September 2008 as Senior Vice President and General Counsel, was appointed Corporate Secretary in May 2011, promoted to Executive Vice President in March 2012, and is the chairman of the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee. Mr. Matteson is responsible for managing and overseeing the legal functions and corporate governance within the Company, as well as supervising the compliance, BSA/AML, physical security and IT security areas. Mr. Matteson previously served as General Counsel at Hudson United Bancorp, Assistant General Counsel at IDB Bank, Senior Attorney at TD Banknorth (now TD Bank) and Counsel at Summit Bank.

Mr. Matteson earned his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University, and bachelor of arts degree from Rutgers University. Mr. Matteson is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York.

 

 

 

 

James R. Noonan
Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer

Mr. Noonan oversees Credit Administration and is responsible for loan review, collections, special assets, commercial appraisal control and the Credit Department.

Mr. Noonan's banking career began at People's Trust of New Jersey and continued through merger to United Jersey Bank, Summit Bank, and Fleet National Bank. His experience includes commercial lending, credit policy and risk management.

A graduate of SUNY New Paltz, Mr. Noonan received his MBA from Farleigh Dickinson University. He has taught courses for AIB in loan negotiations and customer calling skills.

 

 

 

Ronald E. Schwarz

Executive Vice President and Chief Retail Officer

Mr. Schwarz has over 40 years of retail banking experience in Northern, New Jersey. Prior to joining Lakeland Bank, he held the position of Executive Vice President and Market Executive of Retail Banking at Sovereign (Santander) for their Northern New Jersey division. In this capacity, he was responsible for all aspects of management for a 79 branch network and over $4 billion in deposits. Mr. Schwarz also has been actively involved in small business lending initiatives. Prior to Sovereign, he was Senior Vice President and Director of Retail Banking for Independence Community Bank. Other employment included positions with Broad National Bank, Urban National Bank, Midlantic National Bank and United Jersey Bank. 

Mr. Schwarz is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Hudson County Community College Foundation and the Metro YMCA's of the Oranges.

     

David S. Yanagisawa

Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer

Mr. Yanagisawa joined Lakeland in November 2008. He has over 41 years experience in commercial banking, most recently as Senior Loan Officer for TD Bank in the northern NJ market. Before TD Bank’s acquisition of Hudson United Bank in 2006, Yanagisawa had been with Hudson United Bank for 9 years. Before Hudson United, he held various senior lending positions through successive mergers, with Bergen State Bank, Citizens First National Bank of NJ, NatWest Bank and Fleet National Bank.

He is a member of the Garden State Credit Associates and Risk Management Associates and is also a board member of the Volunteer Center of Bergen County.

Mr. Yanagisawa holds a M.B.A. and Bachelor’s degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University and advanced banking degrees from The Stonier Graduate School of Banking and The Graduate Commercial Lending School.
